We headed off to the Piazza Michelangelo yesterday morning, on the southern side of Florence. It’s a really pretty garden area with some fantastic views of the city.
It’s a bit of an uphill hike, but worth the effort.
You can also see some of the city walls:
Later that day we were going to head to a soccer game (Florence vs Genoa.) We bought the tickets, bought the scarves, bought the train tickets — and then the train never showed up.
Whoops! It’s not surprising that some trains don’t run on Sundays, but we couldn’t quite tell that from the timetable. So instead we headed back to Mercato Centrale, grabbed a tea and beer, and watched the game on the big TVs there. The scarves are a nice souvenir even without the game.
While walking around today, we found this. The museum was closed, but I love that entrance:
And then we found a photo booth on the street:
Later on we headed to dinner at a place recommended by some friends, Le Fonticine. The steak florentine came highly praised, so that’s what Travis ordered… and it was about as big as his head. 🙂
Great meal, ended with gelato, of course. 🙂
