SF/Seattle: Dinner, Delivered

I travel to San Francisco and Seattle for work pretty frequently. Sometimes I travel with teams, and sometimes I travel alone. When I’m traveling with teams, I often end up taking the lead on meals: I’ll book reservations, make sure a place that doesn’t take reservations has room for us, figure out how to get us all from here to there, and then make sure we all get there on time.

I like food. Food is good. I make sure we have it.

When I’m traveling sans team, it’s a bit different. I don’t have to think about the food preferences of others (vegetarian/vegan/gluten free/meatatarian/dairy/soy/you name it.) I only have to think about myself. And while this is freeing, it’s also restrictive. I don’t have a bunch of guys to walk around with, nor do I have people to eat with, and I’m not crazy about that. I end up ordering takeout or delivery because hey, seeing stuff and eating stuff by yourself is not nearly as fun as the shared experience. Plus, if I don’t know the neighborhood, I’m not wandering the streets in the dark, and if I’m on my own, I’ve usually had a day full of meetings, so I’m not keen on going out again.

So, this site has made me VERY happy: https://www.trycaviar.com/

It has restaurants for both San Francisco and Seattle. It delivers meals to you. Those meals are hot. There’s a huge variety of culinary styles and flavors. You can get desserts, too. You can even order wine. You can track your order. Granted, there’s a (steep) delivery fee of $10, but I just take that into account and make sure the per diem for my company covers it and my food.

San Francisco Caviar reviews:

OOLA: Gooooooood food. A bit on the salty side, but flavorful and so good. Desserts are good too. Make sure you ask for utensils, unless you’re like me and comfortable eating with your hands.

Barbacco: Eh, it’s ok. It’s Italian, but you could probably do better. I’ve walked past this place and it might be better in person than delivered.

Seattle Caviar reviews:

Wild Ginger: So I haven’t eaten here with delivery, but I have in person, and it’s amazing. The fact that Caviar has restaurants of this caliber on their list is a very good sign.

  1. I need to visit San Fran very soon! Hopefully in the near future. I am trying to go there with my girlfriend soon. I’ve never been to Cali! Nice post. –Greg from Meals N Reels
