When I got to work on Wednesday I reached into my pocket and pulled out something I’d forgotten about: that origami peacock I’d picked up from the currency exchange counter on our first day in Japan. It sits on my desk now, remarkably uncrumpled given that it lived in a pocket in a suitcase for a week.
